16" x 24"

Japanese lattice pattern of a kind often found in textile design. Carved, not inlaid, the effect is achieved entirely by removing wood. There are some 6,500 cut lines, most requiring several cutting strokes. Deceptively simple, this piece is one which seems to induce a sense of peace and meditative calm in most people who look at it. In bookmatched red cedar which has some 300 annular grain lines. This wood lived before the time Sir Isaac Newton discovered calculus.
